"Adequate for a couple of nights"
2nd May 2012, cavalier31, London, United Kingdom
Easily reached as just off the A1, but a little difficult to find hotel access entrance. Several miles from both the airport and city centre, although the city metro station is just about walkable. Parking space adequate but access is via barrier and flimsy ticket that has to be validated at reception and used to exit through another barrier. For frequent visits and exits this is tedious and a multiple exit ticket issued at reception upon request is again a flimsy small piece of paper easily lost or damaged. Cost of parking was an extra, £5 per day at our visit.Service at reception was polite and helpful but a shade slow at busy times. Our room was clean, neat and tidy. It had no air conditioning, but an air vent system to circulate air, it was questionable if it was working and the wall thermostat seemed ineffective. The result was that the room was over hot and only the fact it had an opening window enabled a reasonable night's sleep. The room did not suffer from the traffic nose from the A1 (in a cutting at this point) but some rooms might have this problem.Room storage for clothes and odds and ends was very limited, suitable only for one or two nights. A separate wc was a bonus. Bed was reasonably comfortable for me, but a shade firm for my wife.Good buffet style breakfast with full English or Continental available, but not cheap if purchased separately. We ate out in the evening so have no comments for other meals.

Management responseMany thanks for posting your review on the site. I would like to clarify a couple of points which you have made. Firstly - the car parking barrier system is in place to provide a reasonable secure environment for the guests and their vehicles. Whilst the exit tickets are paper - they work effectively and for regular entrance and exits - the same tickets are used with additional validation. This really is a hassle-free' system for the guest. Secondly - I can confirm that all hotel windows were fully replaced last year to ensure our rooms are sound-proof, irrespective of the positioning of the bedroom. This is fact and not a perception for absolute clarification. Thank you anyway for your feedback.

"A nice suprise for such a bargain"
30th April 2012, gizmoi3, Halifax, United Kingdom
We paid £59 for a double room which compared to other local budget accomadation. On arrival I was suprised by the modern decor and stylish reception. The hotel was has obviously been refurbished and you can tell that it is an older hotel by the pebble dashed walls but after a re-vamp looks as good as any 4* business hotel. I was very suprised by the facilities and did not expect a gym and pool.

"Business hotel"
24th April 2012, giveitago001, Daventry, Northamptonshire
I have stayed at this hotel twice recently, it is a good business hotel.Pros - clean, very attentive reception and restaurant staff, excellent breakfast, good (if expensive) restaurant, nice pool (sauna was out of order on my last visit).Cons - You have to pay for car parking, why? no free wi-fi, why?

"Another good stay at Novotel"
14th April 2012, FILBRIT, Birmingham
Easy to find , very well greeted upon arrival with soft toy and dinosaur gifts for our little ones and the same professional front of house staff I have become used to in Novotels across UK. The room was properly set up for family, enough towels, cups, milk etc (often have to ask at other establishments). The breakfast service was efficient with very good coofee in a personal pot ( no need to ask for top ups) and the yoghurt drinks our kids love. The pool was a little lower in temp than I would have preferred and the changing room has only one shower which can be an issue when the pool is busy. Overall the stay was fine and a nice end to our touring holiday.

Throughout my stay the service that I experienced was of the highest standard. The room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable, the public areas were well kept and afforded quiet areas where one could sit and reflect or work without hindrance. The food was both of good quality and quantity.

"Good yet somewhat distressing.."
1st March 2012, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We had an okay stay at the Novatel in Newcastle, the rooms and service were nothing to complain about at all! The hotel is nice and a respectable place at least we though it was until we saw a half naked couple in the reception area publicly displaying everything to everyone! We were very shocked and taken aback by seeing this so didn't leave our room again until check out. The rooms are not that sound proof either so when we had a noisey couple/group next door, we could hear EVERYTHING I.e music, fortification, talking and shouting and running up and down the hallways! Staff failed to do anything about this so it went on all night. I'm sure the stay would have been much better if it wasn't for other inconsiderate guests!

Management responseMany thanks for the review and I am genuinely sorry that you were distrupted. I am aware of the night in question, and I can re-assure the team on the night did everthing they could to elimate the problem. Thanksfully they were ultimately successful and I concurr with everything you say in relation to some people being totally disrespectful. Thanks again fior the comments and I do hope this will not stop you returning.

"great overall"
20th January 2012, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
I was very pleasently surprised by my stay here. I was concerned that as an 'airport' hotel it may be 'tired' or lacklustre but the rooms were nice and clean although starting to age a little. The pool was great for the kids and the breakfast was very good value(if booked in advance at the discount rate) the fact that the kids get to eat free and the general value of the room made this a great option for us.The ONLY downside was that they charged for parking. Not for paking if you were flying somewhere but just for parking over night. As I am a paying guest I disagree with this and the fee should be waived. I saw no note of this whilst I was booking my room

"Night on the TOON"
5th January 2012, Aly1967, Woking, United Kingdom
The hotel was lovely, the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make everything we asked for accesable. They got us extra pillows and arranged taxi's for us !The breakfast was lovely, there was so much variety . we actually ended up staying for 3 nights instead of the one that we had booked!

"Very acceptable hotel"
7th October 2011, Newton Stewart
Some of the rooms have been upgraded since last we stayed there. The separate toilet remains but they have taken away the extra door into the main room which I used to like as it insulated the room from any noise in the corridoor. There are now aesthetically pleasing but awkwardly situated screen doors into the ensuite. Nicely appointed although the bath ran away far too slowly - we pointed this out. The bed was as hard as hell but apart from that no complaints. Food and service good.

"Comfortable hotel with the city, Metro Centre and Airport all easily accessible"
4th October 2011, Douglas, United Kingdom
Have stayed at this hotel quite a few times over the last 10 - 15 years and have never had any problems. Rooms are large; the standard room reminds me of a Premier Inn but is much quieter. It is close to the Metro train system (£3.00 return into the city centre) and a 7 minute drive to the Metro Centre. There is also a shuttle bus to the airport (which we didn't require). You have to pay for WiFi and the breakfast charge (if breakfast is not included in the package price) is outrageous at around £17 per person - the pub across the car park is £7.95. This time we did not eat in but noted that the bar meal and restaurant menu is the same and appears a little pricey. Note also that there is a £5 per day parking charge. This is not an issue if the room rate is good but could be an irritation if you didn't get a decent room rate. This is a good hotel and we will certainly return but they need to be more realistic with their food and wifi pricing.

Management responseMany thanks for placing your comments. For clarification, our traditional full breakfast is priced at £13.95, and offers a wide range of English and Continental specialities, served from as early as 5am -to fit in well with early departures from the airport. Look forward to welcoming you back.

"Slightly disappointing."
4th September 2011, London, United Kingdom
Bed very hard, pillows inadequate. Breakfast vastly overpriced. Surprised that I had to pay to park my car - never come across this before in any other hotel (Including Novotels).Staff were very good.

Management responseThanks for psoting your response very honestly. Apologies that you were slightly disappointed with the pillows and breakfast price. For information, most hotels in the vicinity are now charging for car park. Hope this does not deter you from returning in the future.

"NOVOTEL"
3rd September 2011, Tattypot, Cumbria-England
This hotel is ideal if you are flying from Newcastle airport. The rooms are good, beds very comfy staff very courteous.Only downside is that you have to pay £5 parking even if you are staying overnight as we were doing. it is near a very busy road and the traffic is constant and there is a Toby Inn opposite with a good carvery and reasonable priced drinks.
View management response »
Management responseMany thanks for the very positive comments in your review. Parking packages with inclusive rates are available and specifically tailored to 'airport departs'. Recent upgrades at the hotel have included completed replacement of all windows to ensure an excellent sound-free sleep. Next time, please try our Elements food experience, a great choice served all day, at equally appealing prices. Many thanks again.

"Pleasant Trip"
2nd September 2011
We had an enjoyable 2 night stay and were well looked after at the Novotel. The superior room on the second floor was as expected and probably worth the slight extra premium. The Novotel is situated close to the A1, making it easy to find but we were situated at the opposite side of the hotel so experienced no noise. Also in close proximity there are a travelodge and Metro Inn hotels along with a Toby Carvery which was very convemient and very busy. Kingston Park Metro station was close by, around a 10 minute walk or there is a park and ride adjacent costing £1, giving easy access to anywhere on the Metro network.

"Great service"
5th August 2011, Jersey, Channel Islands
If you want first class service then book into the Novetel Newcastle Airport. Whilst the rooms are pretty functional, you pay for what you get..The swimming pool was enjoyed by the children. The food was great including, a flexible approach to the menu and slight changes e.g. no cheese. We only stayed one night but my family all agreed, this is a good hotel with outstanding service. Would I book in again? Absolutely. Thank you.

"Hotel met our needs perfectly"
1st August 2011, Coventry
We stayed at this hotel during a weekend visit to Newcastle. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. They arranged for our room to be away from any large groups such as stag and hen parties, just in case it disturbed our sleep. The breakfast was of good quality, with a wide range from cereals to full English breakfast. The hotel has to control car parking, being close to the airport , so there is a charge of £5 per day. This is a bit unusual, its the first time I've seen a hotel charge for parking. Only a slight minus though, and would not stop me from recommending this hotel.
