Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort - hotel reviews in Tahiti

Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort: 3.0 out of 5 stars "In need of a "face lift"."

27th September 2011, Sydney, Australia

Staff were friendly, close to airport, nice pool and bar however there was a very strong musty smell in the bedroom and even though the bed linen was clean, you could see the stains on the pillows. Only 1 lift was working but obviously it was also in need of urgent maintenance.

Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort: 3.0 out of 5 stars "comfortable"

20th September 2011, Hamilton, New Zealand

This hotel is comfortable and clean but getting abit tired in some places. Unfortunately the state of the carpet lets the place down alot and badly needs replacing. This is not a luxury hotel like most Sofitel Hotels but the price compared to other hotels on the Island is lower. The hotel position is good and not far from the airport but there is no plane noise. There is a bus stop outside the hotel which takes you to town if you want to get there cheaply. The pool is lovely and the hotel has its own beach as well so the choice is yours. The food at the restaurant was good and the service was great one night and not the next! There is abit of language confusion sometimes!

Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort: 1.0 out of 5 stars "Terrible"

27th June 2011, LoriColle, Sao Paulo, Brazil

The experience in this hotel was just terrible! Since the moment we arrived until when we left, the hotel did not represent the brand Sofitel at all. Staff was rude and not helpful, food was very poor and expensive, one elevator (out of 2) was not working, building and instalations very old, housekeeping did not clean properly, air conditioning not working. Cost benefit not worth! We regret for not staying at Intercontinental (next door) for a few dollars more. It is a shame for Sofitel to own a hotel like this...

Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort: 2.0 out of 5 stars "This is not Sofitel Standard Hotel"

19th June 2011, eaa1947, gold coast

I booked this hotel through Accor Website. I have Accor Advantage Club and A-Glub Gold Membership. Every where we stay at Sofitel we are given an upgrade. No such up grade was offered at this hotel. When I asked next day about an up grade I was told that they had already given an upgrade to a "lagoon view" room. When I informed the agent that I had already booked a lagoon view room, I was told that he will give me a "discount" and charge me for a "mountain view" room. However at check out another agent did not care and charged us for the original booking for a lagoon view room in any case. In addition at every Sofitel, A-Club Gold members are provided with certain amenities in the room. No such "treat" was offered. The room was extremely small and was more like an Ibis Hotel room than a 5 star luxury Sofitel. The furnishings and decor of the rooms were extremely dated and there was no feature to the room. The curtains were terrible and the carpet very dated. For a 5 Star hotel there was no bath tub but just a shower. The Air conditioner was quite noisy and kept us awake. There were no slippers and bath robes which are obligatory in any Sofitel hotel. The maid had to be reminded 3 times before the bed was made next day at about 5:30 pm. Only one of the 2 Lifts work in this 7 story hotel. I wanted to take a photographs of the lagoon from the balcony of the lift lobby. However it was "shut" and boarded up with very tacky ply wood panel. The breakfast was a disaster. All the food including " fresh fruit, salad items and cheese" were on open display with no glass or other covering. As a consequence the bowls containing the above mentioned items were covered with flies and other flying insects. The fruit etc was therefore inedible. There was a great shortage of staff and what staff was there could not care less. There was no one to pick up the luggage from the drive way with about 8-10 steps and no ramp. Heavy luggage therefore has to be hauled up the stairs by the guests. The hotel does not provide any form of shuttle or other assistance in getting to or from the airport. This is especially difficult if you arrive late at night. All in all this is a very poor reflection on the Sofitel Brand and Accor should immediately rebadge this hotel as Ibis or some other brand and this poor excuse for a hotel. At the very least this hotel needs urgent up dating and new management.

Sofitel Tahiti Maeva Beach Resort: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Better than expected"

22nd February 2011, Mount Isa

We had read all of the reviews for this hotel just days prior to leaving and were expecting a dump. We were pleasently surprised. We could have spent a few extra days there. We stayed at this hotel on the way to, and from Bora Bora and there was certainly a difference but not to the extreme of some of the reviews we read. Another comment was the dank smell in the hallways which we also detected but it wasn't totally off putting. We especially enjoyed the bar and the happy hour. We had just come from Bora Bora where on occasion we were the only couple enjoying happy hour to find a thriving happy hour with dozens of people. The bar is open until midnight on the weekends so it was lovely to fly in at 10pm on a Friday night and be able to kick start our holiday with some cocktails. The pool is also lovely at night. If you are looking for a quiet exclusive location, this is not the place for you. But coming from Bora Bora where it was quiet and exclusive we thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace and the opportunity to "people watch". We found the staff to be friendly and the teppanyaki resturant a must.

Management responseDear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your comment with us. I will share your comments with our team. Concerning the F&B, I understand your frustation and remarks, however, French Polynesia is taxed very strongly for the food and beverage supplies. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one.Regards,
