"Don't take the upgrade"
28th February 2013, mct2323, Rochester, Minnesota, USA
I paid for an upgrade to a suite...I.e. I paid to have an adjoining room with a stranger. I could hear everything the neighbors said, and they weren't even really loud. Also, this hotel is in Bloomington, not Minnneapolis. The restaurant was good, but I don't plan to stay there again.

"Let your nose be the judge of this one..."
17th February 2013, WillTravel4GoodWine, Toronto
I stayed at this hotel while in MSP for business. This was my second time staying at this property. I bought the pre-payed room, which offered a upgrade for about the same price as I would have paid had I not pre-paid for the room. The room was a really spacious suite but had no exterior view, so the windows faced the inside of the hotel courtyard. This is a little strange and the room was very dark as a result. Opening the door to this suite (Room #630), right away I could smell a very strong, nasty musty odour. It's strange because the rest of the hotel common areas do not have this smell. I have stayed at this hotel before and had the same issue. I was moved to another room which was better but not completely odour-free . On this stay, I didn't bother to complain. It had been a long week, it was late and I was only going to be there one night. Two of my colleagues also stayed here and they didn't have this issue. Other than this issue, the room was beautiful, very spacious and clean. Bathrooms were really beautiful and I loved the Lanvin amenities. You can actually use the shampoo and cream unlike most hotel provided amenities which you would only want to use in an emergency. The hotel restaurant offers French food and it is really excellent. I have had dinner here with colleagues a few times and also enjoyed their breakfast. They have a very nice cheese selection and a good selection of wines. The building itself is very dated and in need of some renovations. It is not the same calibre as other Sofitel properties I have stayed at. You will notice the elevators are ancient and the doors and hallways are from the 60's but it the furnishings are all very nicely appointed and stylish. Staff are friendly and I appreciated the coffee station in the lobby which was a very convenient way to get my coffee to go as I left for the airport. There isn't much around the neighbourhood of this hotel, but it is reasonably close to the airport. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if not for the issue with some rooms having a very unpleasant smell.

"Great hotel and restaurant, bar."
15th February 2013, Gooberdud, Rochester, Minnesota, USA
Twice each year we get away from home for a couple of nights in the Twin Cities. Our hotel of choice is the Sofitel. Over the years we've developed a couple of habits. One is the continental breakfast in the room. Another is the wine flight in the bar after we have been out to a concert or show. I get the three reds, my wife the three whites. Everything about the hotel is pretty near perfect. Much better than the downtown hotels, and the weekend rates are very reasonable.

Management responseIt is always wonderful to hear such great comments from our regular guests. We are so happy that each visit you are able to enjoy the breakfast and ‘wine flight’. It sounds like a special tradition you share together as a couple and we are glad to have the opportunity to be a part of that.

"Snowy February Visit"
12th February 2013, Suzypoot, London, United Kingdom
I travelled to Minneapolis with work staying at this hotel for one night. I received a very warm welcome on arrival. The rooms and facilities are very good and comfortable. All contact I had with reception and the breakfast room was efficient and friendly and I was also given a free smoothie to try. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

"Great place to stay"
6th February 2013
We came here for a pageant for my daughter and it was a great place to stay and service was outstanding! We wish that there was a pool or something more for the children. The rooms were great though we found the queen beds a little small. Also would be nice if the internet site was a little more 'user friendly", we had a hard time getting much information about individual hotels and what they offer and what is in the surrounding areas.

Management responseWe are happy to hear that you enjoyed yourselves while visiting the area, and were able to relax with family. We hope to see you again very soon, and we wish the best of luck to your daughter in her pageantry!

"Nice place"
12th January 2013, blindqu, Denver, CO
Very nice hotel and staff. Room was clean and quiet and nicely appointed. Restaurant at the hotel, Collette was very good. Good service in the restaurant and the food was very good. Overall this is a nice property. And if I'm not mistaken its one of the few hotels in the Twin Cities that has had the same name as it had when it opened back in the 79;s.

"A Sentimental Journey into past times and places and the love of my life June now gone...."
5th January 2013, forensicb, Fridley, Minnesota, USA
I was very impressed with the staff and the attention showered on me...I am 84 years of age and appreciate all such considerations...the food is always great...some of the staff from the old days are still around...My wife June and I started going to the Sofitel in the 1980's...we spent many a New Years Eve and New Years day at the Sofitel...I still miss some of the special treats of the old days...Orchestra and music in the Lobby until midnight on New Years Eve and everyone toasting the New Year...We always had a room overlooking the lobby area...as I did this time....it was always fun sitting by our window over looking the lobby and watching the going's on...June loved shoping in the little lobby shop...Steve the current friendly manager of the shop was there back in those days...miss your old days lobby piano player...June and I loved to just pop in and take up a small lobby table and order a basket of French bread with a cheese and fruit plate, our favorite glass of White Zin wine and dine and people watch...they were such fun days...unfortunately my wife June came down with Alzheimer's in January of 1998 and after an almost 11 year Journey into the shawdows of this dread disease she passed away on October 23rd, 2008....as the poet once said: "When your "hands drop white and empyty, all the Toys of the World will break"...my life would never again be the same...I keep trying to recapture bits and pieces by sentimental journey's fo this type...I always enjoy talking with some of your friendly Bar employees that have been around for a bit...Harpo is great...he does not act like I am crazy when I order a glass of White Zin for June, her own place settings, and just leave them untouched alongside a favorite picture of June....Even when I departed on Wednesday, your Bellman was so kind, helpful and friendly...thanks for making my visit such a pleasure....your old friend from the past.... Stan

"Thoughts"
1st January 2013, krnetwal, La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
The rooms seem more dated with each visit, and, overall, there are issues with noise. For example, the carpeting in my room was old and had two marks/stains. There were also stains on one of the bathroom doors. In addition, I could hear everything another guest was saying in his bathroom near mine, probably above or below me. Your beds are still very comfortable and the location is good, given its proximity to France Avenue and 494, but an update may be needed.

Management responseThank you for returning to us over the years. We are pleased to hear that you enjoy our location and comfort of the beds. As a return guest, we also appreciate you providing us with your feedback. "Sofitel stay exceeds our high expectations"
31st December 2012, aschussler, Spring Park, Minnesota, USA
Upon checking in, I found we had been upgraded to a top floor king suite (anniversary celebration) which included a Keurig coffee maker, which I had not used, and was fun to try. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the ability to adjust the room temperature was great - we were able to sleep well in a cool room. The meal at Chez Colette was creatively displayed and simply delicious. We will definitely return for future celebrations. Both check in and check out staff were caring, attentive and seemed truly pleased to welcome us. The only jarring note was provided by the bizarre artwork in the bathroom, which seemed completely out of tune with the rest of the decor.
