Stay53426708376 Families - TripAdvisor review

We stayed at this hotel with my family recently. My birthday is the 13th of February. We had a long journey from Scotland. We arrived at the hotel at 1am. There were 2 police cars outside. When we went to the reception. There was a man working, late 50s, bald, about 6ft 3… 3 police at the desk. A very uneasy atmosphere. My husband greeted the man with “ Hola” as my husband speaks Spanish, this was perfectly normal… This annoyed the male receptionist. He questioned why my husband was using Spanish?! He then said, “ Hola in German means “ you effing bad man”! And I am not an effing bad man! ( his exact words)…Except he used the real swear words, beginning with “ F” ! We were confused, shocked and nervous. My kids were so upset. He then proceeded to be rude. It was such an odd and strange situation. The next morning I had to ask reception to be moved. Granted , they gave us discount for that terrible night, but the move to another hotel cost us over £100 more. It was worth it, to leave this hotel. That member of staff was a disgrace, We have never been spoken to in that manner at a hotel in our lives. I was sent a slice of cake from this Hotel and apologises from the management for the dreadful experience, to their more expensive “ sister hotel’… Novotel. However, I still felt the need to put this review to warn others… Avoid this place at all costs. It was an experience I would wish no others ever receive.

We had an overall average stay. The hotel is centrally located and has the basics you need for a weekend city trip, a good bed and shower. Unfortunately the room was too hot. The airconditioning didn't work properly and due to the fact that the hotel is located at a busy road we couldn't open the window. Furthermore, the room could have been cleaner. The bathroom smelt a little and the curtain had holes and blood in it.

Good location.

Great budget hotel in the centre of Berlin.

Not the best location but brilliant breakfast

I booked this place the second I saw it had a waffle bar. The other reason was that I found a good price which essentially made it a no-brainer compared to other expensive accommodations. Knowing what I know now about Berlin's lay out I would say it is not a great spot as a tourist. Granted Berlin as a city doesn't have it's attractions clustered together like most European cities, and you can walk to Alexanderplatz which will connect you to a lot of places. But the street itself isn't attractive and is not very close to places to eat. Even so I am happy with the room I got at the price I paid. It is very basic, chain-type hotel, but it is well-kept up and clean. From my room any even-numbered room you have a view of the TV tower too which was nice. It even has a proper double duvet, rather than giving two separate duvets on double beds (which is popular in Germany I think but as a Brit I am not a fan). My only complaint was that the shower is temperamental, and getting the right temperature was fiddly. The breakfast is definitely worth paying for. It was well-laid out, good quality, and the fresh waffles are some of the best I have ever had. If you know Mitte is the area you want to stay then this is a good option, but if you are a tourist and taking a guess (like I did) then I would say look at other areas and hotels rather than this one.
