The restaurant food was good, however the service and attitude to begin with was reluctant but did improve as the meal progressed. The room was basic, economy at best, tired decor, Spartan and very budget ( think Campanile) empty minibar, no complimentary drinks except for a single,small paper bottle of lukewarm water that had to be shared between the two of us, even an Ibis Hotel gives a bottle per guest in the room. Having ACCOR platinum membership gives very little benefit in this hotel. During check-in a single complimentary welcome drink voucher was given, the waiter in the restaurant went and checked at reception, and reluctantly came back and said the hotel agreed to give one glass of wine each… big deal. Every other hotel in the ACCOR group we stay in - always give a couple of complimentary soft drinks in the room mini bar, as well as a welcome voucher PER GUEST, and a bottle of water in room PER GUEST. No upgrade was offered either,- in truth the ACCOR loyalty program benefits are minimal here. It was exactly the same when three of us stayed in this hotel with 2 rooms in January 2024. Next time we stay in Auxerre, we will book a nearby IBIS as it would give a better welcome and any IBIS we have had to use in the past have equal or better rooms than we were given on both occasions at this Mercure in Auxerre.

The reception, dining area and grounds around the hotel were attractive and well-presented. Our room was comfortable and everything worked, it was just a little tired as appeared to have been only partly refurbished.

Happy to have a room in the nearby building, happy with cleanliness and happy with staff friendliness. Only thing negative is the price of breakfast, which is extremely high. Agree that it's a buffet, but it's only eggs, ham and cheese along with viennoiseries. Nothing fancy , I'd rather skip the "buffet" part and get a simple omelette with bread, butter for 10eur.

Arrived at the hotel in the evening and our confirmed family room wasn’t available. Instead we were offered two twin rooms, which at least meant we had somewhere to sleep, but with a 3 year old child also meant he wanted to run between the two rooms constantly. He also would t go to sleep as he wanted to always be with both parents. Really inconvenient. Wasn’t offered any compensation for the hotels mistake. I asked for breakfast to be included which the hotel agreed to, but more could have been done to make up for their mistake.

The hotel looks like it has been renovated but the layout is far from ideal. There are rooms in the main building but more are in the building behind the hotel not connected to the main building. Our room was in the back building, 2nd floor, with no elevator. The room itself had decent and new furnishings but strange carpet -but smallish with a slanted roof so it made it feel smaller. Toilet and shower were separated - the bathroom looked like it was in the middle of renovation with most being completed except the paint around the door handle. The tiny room with the toilette looked incomplete. The base trim and other parts of it were dated and had a mid renovation feel to it. The staff was very friendly. Lobby was nice with decent breakfast, not sure the fireplace in the lobby was working- it seems to be out but did not emulate heat. It was rainy when we were there so a nice hot fireplace would have been nice. Dinner was a hard pass, should have skipped it. Inedible appetizer with some sort of pork, although the salad that accompanied it was tasty. Main dish was dry chicken with over cooked vegetables sides and dessert was a giant bowl of panna cotta which could have been promising but lacked flavor. Pear pie was ok. Overall I wouldn’t return, the staff was very nice but for a last night in France on our way to the airport it was a let down.
