Blossoming biodiversity
There are just 34 internationally recognised biodiversity hotspots on the planet - and WA's south-west is one of them!
It's the only area in Australia to have this status.
There are 69 rare and priority flora species and 4 priority ecological communities in this area.
Woodlands, swamps and sandy soil are all features of this incredibly diverse land. Head to the Margaret River between September and November if you want to be there during the colourful wildflower season.
The wildflowers and graceful orchids are a huge drawcard for botanists, but they also paint the perfect backdrop for lovers, too.
Marri, karri and eucalypt forests are also dotted throughout the area, attracting many visitors.
Take a tour
Go on a Margaret River Discovery Tour as a couple if you want to experience as much of this beautiful region as possible in a short timespan.
There are various options available, depending on whether you want to see powerful waterfalls, go canoeing or swill a fine drop at local wineries.
Your guide will take you around the region in a luxury off-road vehicle, providing intimate knowledge of the area and taking you to see breathtaking coastal scenery.
A sunset canoe tour might be the perfect way to begin a relaxing weekend when you arrive, setting the mood for a romantic few days.
Catching the sun dipping down over the Indian Ocean is quite a sight, and you'll be glad to share it with your loved one.
Natural wonders
There are several caves in the Margaret River region that wow visitors year-round.
Don't miss the chance to explore at least one of them - whether it's Lake, Jewel or Mammoth. All caves have stunning natural formations.
You can guide yourself around these natural wonders or choose to have a tour guide show you around and explain their history - it's entirely up to you.
There's the Moondyne cave too, where you can have a truly unique caving experience. You'll don gloves, overalls and helmets and be guided through spots that are both wide and narrow.
The stalactites have a fragile beauty that captivates visitors year-round. Because of environmental sensitivities, trips only run from June to December each year.
