Comfort you would expect from Sofitel

We stayed in the junior suite for 3 nights. It was nice, spacious, comfortable (bed with extra pillows!), clean etc., befitting the "Sofitel" brand. A quiet hotel, with good ambience, and friendly service, and distance-wise, somewhere in the middle between KL city center and PJ life. Only downside was the very cold air-conditioning in the room, which even after turning down the fan speed, and turning up the temperature, did not really help; our guess was that the hotel was newer, and not fully occupied during that time we were there, and the a/c was centrally controlled (plus the rainy weather those few days). Nevertheless, we still enjoyed our stay. As to location, the hotel is part of DC Mall (still quite empty, with Jaya Grocer supermarket and some restaurants), and a very short walk (5 mins) from the new Pavilion Damasara Heights (where there are many more restaurants to choose from, and more shopping). But both malls were much less crowded and "happening" than those in Bukit Bintang or at Mid Valley or 1-Utama. Would stay here again when we next have business there.

Hotel is rlly good, staff were very friendly. Travelled all the way from sg with my honda civic & greeted by the friendliest valet guy(Marten) working there. He is a solid guy, if anyone needs valet parking please approach him. He is very informative about his scope & the areas as well. 5/5 would come back here again!

A Sofitel not living up to general Sofitel standard

This Sofitel is so much below than other Sofitels I stayed around the world: Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok, Manila, Philadelphia US, Marseille France and more. The room seems decent but with cheaply made amenities, slippers, and laundry bags. Most staff were nice, but many were just acting like they were working in a 3 star hotel and not caring about greeting guests at all. When I checked in at 10PM, the gentleman at the counter hurried the whole thing like a "transaction", without greeting me by my name nor acknowledging my Diamond member status. It feels that he could not be bothered to explain the detail of the hotel. The staff in the Club were helpful, but overall it seems understaffed and not quite well organized. I stayed at Banyan Tree (also a Accor hotel) for a few nights in the same trip and it was a night and day difference. It would be very difficult to get me stay at this Sofitel again next time I am in Kuala Lumpur.

Comparing Sofitel

Visited Kuala Lumpur for the Chinese New Year, having enjoyed the same festivities the previous year. Since this trip was for a week, decided to split the stay and check out the Sofitel Damansara Kuala Lumpur (for 3 nights) before moving to one of the same tier Accor hotels in KLCC where we usually stay. The Sofitel is located in the Damansara Town Centre, with the Damansara City (DC) mall with a small food court, Jaya Supermarket and other food and retail outlets directly opposite and the larger Pavilion Mall to its left about a 100m stroll away. Other than commercial buildings and residential condominiums adjacent it is residential. First impression is the hotel is modern in design, quite new and well kept. Staff generally friendly. Had to wait a few minutes for attention. The allocated room was not ready so went for a walk across the two malls as Club Millésime was not opened till noon. Arriving back at after 13:00, was brought up to Club Millésime for refreshments, wait for the start of the daily afternoon tea service between 14:00-16:00 and for the room to be ready. Finally got access to the upgrade suite room, which was quite spacious though from the ambience seems like the carpets is due for cleaning; other than this all else were as expected. The Accorplus member welcome amenity was unexpectedly disappointing, certainly not up to this level of Accor hotel. Went back to Club Millésime for the evening cocktail, serving wines, cocktails, juices and hot beverages with the selection of food offerings. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant, Kwee Zeen due to the short opening hours of Club Millésime. Menu offerings of international and local selection was as expected of this level, though slightly less comprehensive than offered at other same tiered Accor hotels in Kuala Lumpur. Quality and taste are up to expectations. The coffee from the Nespresso commercial machine was surprising good, though the juice could be fresh squeezed. Staff seems adequate, efficient with service mind. Afternoon tea spread at Club Millésime is limited to a selection of 2-3 “open sandwich” selections and some cakes and dried fruits and nuts and similar over the three days; punctuality was not a strong point. The evening cocktail was better, with a few hot selections on offer, plus salads, soups, sushi, cold cuts and cheeses and deserts. There is a baked/roast item as well. The evening cocktail menu changes each day and the taste and quality is what is expected. Service could do with increased staff and efficiency by better training. Did not dine at either Nizza or Wan Chun Tin restaurants as they were closed when we wanted to go. However, got a taste of some of their basic menu items which were offered at the evening cocktails and these were good. Le Bar in the foyer serves Illy coffee, however used uht milk as we watched, which was a disappointment and we left after a couple of sips. Overall, a hotel if one like a quiet, relaxing place or just a comfortable hotel for a couple of days. If looking for more activities, better to seek out the KLCC area.
