We recently enjoyed a wonderful three night stay including dinner at La Barbacane. The location is quite amazing, as are the views. If you are going to visit Carcassonne it is well worth staying in the Cité as everything is on your doorstep. The rooms are luxurious and the service superb. Highly recommended!

Good hotel in a great location

Spent one night at this hotel and had a nice time. You can't beat the location, situated within the walls of Carcassonne. The bar lounge is a nice place for a drink and the gastronomic dinner at the restaurant was outstanding. The service throughout the hotel (check-in, bar, restaurant, etc.) was good. We were there in April so didn't get to enjoy al fresco dining but I can imagine that this hotel is very nice in the warm months as they have a lovely garden. The only thing that could have been better was our room, which felt tired and in need of updating. Despite this, I would still recommend this hotel as the overall experience was good.

Cancelled our booking in favour of a cycling team!

I'm still fuming that they had the audacity to cancel our booking in favour of a cycling team. No super apologetic offers for the inconvenience just cancelled in favour of another more worthy customer. The real joke is that the cancellation was months after we made it to see the tour de france! I'll never come back.

Romantic and comfortable hotel in the midst of a walled, medieval city.

This is an interesting hotel right in the middle of the walled city of Carcassone. You arrive at its dedicated parking lot outside the walls of the city. Then a driver (very nice guy named Roman) takes you and your luggage up into the city in a private, electric car. The hotel is quirky. To reach our suite you had to,go up to the second floor,on an elevator, then cross over to a second building, then down two flights of stairs and down a hall to the room. However, there also is a “secret” door to the street from the hallway and you can then just walk over to the first building. Once you get used to the quirks it is easy to get to a from the room without going up and down stairs(Unless someone locks the door so you cannot get back inside). The suite was large, bright and airy with French doors onto a private patio and windows which opened easily. The staff was helpful with a concierge who mapped out a nice side trip to the eighth century abbey at St. Hilaire and told us how to get to,the pedestrian bridge in the lower city with spectacular views of the walled city above. The breakfast buffet was good with eggs cooked to order. The staff was very nice and decorated our room for our anniversary. The walled City of Carcassone is unique and beautiful and the Hotel de la Cite provided a romantic and comfortable way to enjoy it.

No, you can t be a spa hotel but not have spa facilities available. After a day of driving we had high hopes and we spent good money, only to be told that the spa is fully booked, we stayed one night and we called in the morning to book the spa (weird a spa hotel needs to have spa bookings) but there was no good will towards us, which one does not expect from a 5 star hotel. Other positive aspects were shadowed by this.
