4 Star Hotel in the Southern Outskirts of Valence

One of the 'above expectations' 4 star hotel located at the southern edge of city Valence in France. Nice dinning area & restaurant. Reception is manned 24/7. Rooms were spacious and clean. As you enter the hotel, you will come along with many great decoration ideas, which reflect a good feel of creative arts. This is located at the southern side of outer ring of the city, so traffic is not too busy and you will have a nice & quite sleep. Beds were comfortable and temperature of the rooms was regulated. I do not find any issue which must be highlighted so happy to leave a good review.

Too small rooms

I don't think Valence is a famous tourist town but we pass by quite often as it's halfway between Brussels and southern Valencia in Spain. To be honest, we don't like this hotel because the rooms are too small and the breakfast has so little variety. We stayed in another hotel last time when we passed by Valence. That hotel was much better than this one but they are the same price! I can't mention that hotel's name here but I gave a very positive review for that hotel a few years ago.

A poor Mercure

Staff are not very friendly. I don’t mean cracking jokes and having long conversations- I mean basic levels of hospitality are lacking. Restaurant is very poor. Virtually no choice and certainly nothing that could be considered a full meal. Most unhelpful in regards to allergy related diet restrictions. Restaurant at front of hotel (a separate business) is much better but very busy (unlike the mercure restaurant- where we were easily accommodated before being ignored and ultimately walking out). No possibility of putting drinks from the bar on the room- everything had to be paid for up front (unlike the other three mercure hotels we stayed in over the last few weeks.) Rooms themselves were as I would expect - clean. Bed comfortable. No easy access to the pool- you have to walk out of the front door. Around the front of the restaurant (in your swimwear) and back in through a gate. Took three attempts to find due to the poor attitude of the staff giving directions. You cannot take drinks by the pool (as with other places) but as pool is remote from the hotel bar area this makes it less pleasant than in the other similar hotels. Did not enjoy our stay which thankfully was only one night

Go to Ibis, it'll be cheaper

Booked a Mercure hoping to get something better than an Ibis. Not so. Yes the rooms are new but they are ridiculously small, impossible to open 2 suitcases at the same time. Bed is comfortable. Impossible to ask for a supplementary towel! I didn't dare to ask for more toilet paper. One Plus: Parking is large and free. NOT WORTH IT.

I am sorry to hear that you had a less than perfect experience due to the hot seasons in Valence. Indeed, being in the off-season, we have no air conditioning or heating to avoid the fridge effect throughout the hotel, like all Valentinois hotels in this period. Unfortunately we cannot anticipate a heat wave as such in this season. Please excuse us but know that it is not in our habit and in our DNA, not to surpass ourselves for our customers. Modern facility and confortable with well equiped rooms. , Very friendly, efficient and helpfull staff. Excellent breakfast in a good environment. Nice and secured parking gives a good feeling when making an intermediate stop on the way home after an holyday.
