Two night stay as part of a driving trip around New Zealand. Good hotel with great amenities, free laundry room which was very handy, and free use of the thermal pool in he hotel next door. Lots to see in the area, we enjoyed the park where you could dip your feet in the thermal pool. Great view of the lake from the hotel. Lots of restaurants nearby. Highlight was a trip up the gondola with dinner in the restaurant, very nice and great views.

Avoid the Rydges

We ended up at The Rydges, as the Ibis was full. Boring, overpriced, and with reception staff it was often hard to understand. Breakfast boring, over-priced, and often baskets were empty. On the other hand, charging our e-car was easy. Overall: Hmph.

Frustrating stay

Not much went right with our stay. Arrived at 4pm and there were a line of people waiting for rooms. Waited 2 hours for our room to be ready and just given 2 drink tickets for the inconvenience. Reading reviews during our wait says this wasn’t the first time this has happened at this location. Finally get up to “our” room, except we actually were given a key to someone else’s room - we were able to just walk on in on them. We go back to reception and get a new room. A couple of hours later we’re in our room and someone else walks into our room. We send them back to reception to get a new room and a few minutes later a manager comes up saying they needed to get us new keys. Parking was also interesting - they never told us we could park across the street during the joke of checkin and the lot was full every night. The room itself also wasn’t great - carpet was stained and lighting is not good. Very dark in the room and awkward to keep the blinds open if you have a “city view” looking into another hotel. Highly recommend finding any other hotel.

Great location but lack of hot water

We enjoyed a 3 night stay here in a renovated King room with a lake view. We could use some Accor points and save money and the rate was ok for Rotorua (nzd200 per night). You get access to the pool and spa next door at the Novotel. We got a welcome drink as silver member which we enjoyed. The room was comfy and we slept well. Only issue where I have deducted a star is hot water. It was very sporadic in the morning in the shower. We are in a geothermal area! Crazy!

Great hotel

The hotel is centrally located in Rotorua near restaurant row. It is also a good starting point to walk around and see the city. Free laundry and wi-fi. The rooms were nice and tidy. The staff at reception was great, Buffet breakfast was great.
