Budget hotel at a non-budget price

I stayed for a few nights at IBIS Styles Hotel in Cognac while on business in early December, which to me was a fairly low season. My company got a rate of 125 Euro/night. At that price I was expecting a decent mid range hotel based on staying at other Hotels near Cognac and by reading on the IBIS website that the IBIS Styles is a step up from IBIS Budget brand and this was my first experience with the IBIS brand at all. Front desk staff are extremely friendly and engaging. I got a free room upgrade with my Accor status. The room itself was a bit of a let down. Mostly because of the dark decor (back wall behind bed painted black and dark carpet and one small window) This is definitely is a budget hotel solely based on room features and If you can get a room at this hotel at a good price, it could be a good option. Room features that weren't there No - work desk No - work chair. Instead a hard plastic cheap chair you see on a patio No - USB outlets No - Kettle, coffee or tea No - Mini-fridge No - Ironing board, or iron, although the web site mentions one No - Additional amenities in the bathroom, just soap No - Streaming features available on the TV Limited power outlets - One by the bed and one at the far corner by the window that was too far away to be useful An odd little plastic stool that was too small to be of use in any way The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were very small and square and had a weird textured pillow-case on them that made them look at feel like couch pillows. The good aspects of the room - The heating system worked well - It seemed fairly sound proof - It was very clean - The bed was comfortable - The hot water worked well I also saw on the IBIS website in-room newspaper and free water bottle mentioned, but I did not see them. The breakfast was just OK. The chairs in the breakfast room are all hard plastic. Parking is plentiful and free.

A perfect stay of 2 nights. The staff could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was also well equipped and spacious. A full breakfast was included in the room price. The pool, poolside with sun-beds and tables/chairs were very lovely. Disability access was excellent. We could not have been happier or more impressed and would not hesitate to return or recommend.

Have stayed in lots of Ibis hotels in France - had everything we had come to expect clean room, comfortable bed, good shower at a very reasonable price. This one was even better - very friendly staff, excellent breakfast included & a nice pool. Could not fault it. Staff spoke English & were gracious about our attempts at French.

We stayed for one night. Family of 4 in one room. The moment we arrived the staff were so welcoming and so dynamic! Nothing was too much trouble. They ensured we had all the information we needed at check in. We ended up eating at the hotel that evening. They have a good choice of dishes and good value. The bar and restaurant area overlook the pool....it is well set out and great for families. Breakfast was good too....lots of choice and everywhere was clean and well stocked. The room was large for a growing family of 4. The open out sofa beds for our two teenagers were large and the room was cool all the time as the air con was great!! The rooms were exceptionally clean....great value for money. We enjoyed the pool area as well.....overall, it was a very positive stay. The staff were all professional, friendly, lively and work well together. It was a really nice welcome and a great staff, well done!!

Overnight stop during the pandemic!

We stayed here one night on the 23rd April on our way home. Obviously, this is a very difficult time and we were relieved when, after a long 15 hour journey, we saw the welcoming green lights. There were, understandably, few formalities, but the staff were welcoming and accommodating. We were even asked if we had eaten, we arrived quite late and had some food with us, but presumably we could have ordered something. We spent a comfortable night and the breakfast the following morning was great. The hotel manager, David, was cheerful and friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here. I have read some of the ‘negative’ reviews, there’s no pleasing some people is there? 😀 Carol
