We stayed at the Novotel Darling Square from March 25-29, 2024. The location is perfect. It is surrounded by food halls like Starbucks, McDonald's etc. Behind is the Chinese Garden ( hop on hop off bus stop # 18 ) and Chinatown. It's walking distance to Paddy's Market, Coles Supermarket, Darling Harbour, Darling Square and Darling Quarter. The room was always clean with complete amenities. They give out free coupons for welcome drinks which you can avail in the reception lobby or the Pump House which is beside the building. Highly recommended.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights and had an overall good experience. I paid extra to have a view of the Chinese Gardens but that was worthless. I was on the 4th floor and all I could see was a brick wall and the top of some trees. Don't pay extra for the Chinese Garden view, as it's not worth it. The location of the hotel was good if you wanted to be in China Town and/or near the harbour. However, it was at least a good 30-40 minute walk to the Opera House or you can take a tram and get there within 10 minutes. One thing I will add is that there was a total of two elevators in the entire hotel that customers could use. This meant that the wait to use the elevator was very long at times. At one point, I think I waited 5 minutes for the elevator to come and every time it would come, it would be jammed packed with people. One time I had to go back to my room to grab a sweater after stepping outside and that put me back several minutes... it wasn't just a quick grab. Another time I was waiting for the elevator and these people walked into the hotel, checked in and then walked to the elevator and mentioned they were surprised that I was still standing there waiting for it because they had seen me when they originally walked in. Overall, despite the annoyance of the lack of elevators, I would stay here again.

Bad Reception Communications

Reception Staff make promises they don’t keep. We arrived at 07:30 and were aware we could not check in to our rooms. We were advised to return at 12:00 when our rooms should be ready. This was not the case but whilst waiting other guests were arriving and being given keys to their rooms. After 45 minutes, we questioned why we were still waiting but others were checked in immediately. We were advised our rooms had not been cleaned. We explained that they should not make statements they were unable to fulfill. They then offered my friend her room! I suggested to Manager that they should advise cleaning staff that these rooms should be serviced first, to provide the serviced promised by Reception. The rooms were clean and comfortable with good bathroom facilities. Servicing rooms seems to be an issue as, although ‘please make up room’ notice left from 09:00 to 16:00 room was left unmade. We felt the apology offered was just lip service.

I haven't been back to this hotel for over 10 years, and I was very impressed, and I will return. The foyer and staff were every welcoming and courteous. The staff who serviced my room were extremely polite and accommodating too. The room I had was on the 7 floor (1 more residential floor above) at the city end, on the corner. I had great views north with plenty of natural light and a small balcony overlooking the streets, that sadly wasn’t accessible. The room was very spacious and clean and in pretty good condition. The bathroom was in great condition and the water pressure was excellent. The linen throughout was fantastic and the bed extremely comfortable. Ample lights, lighting and mirrors throughout, including a pull-out shaving mirror in the bathroom – always an appreciated bonus. The shower was very spacious and there was plenty of bench space in the bathroom too. The desk was adequate, and there was room for a low bench to put luggage on, but I managed to keep my bag in the wardrobe, which had a light inside it, which made it all easy. The “do not disturb”, “please make up my room” and doorbell buzzers near the front door were great.

As the title reads that’s about all that’s good about it. Maybe a little too hush as the staff were ok and did what that were paid to do. Rooms were clean but have no amenities except for tea and coffee. Well shampoo and body wash but no toothpaste or ear cleaners. Not even information pamphlets etc of what to do in the area etc. swimming pool at 10am had no clean towels but had dirty glasses and ice bucket on the tables. Breakfast was abysmal. At one stage there was no hash browns, eggs, bacon or sausages. They were replacing the stuff already there like pancakes which were dry and inedible. The muffins also were hard as rocks I’d say left over from day before. This place really needs some good management to fix it up. Wouldn’t recommend
